Post assessment support for children
An assessment can provide answers, but it doesn’t always tell you what to do next.
Whether your child received a specific outcome, another finding, or you’re still making sense of what the assessment means for your family, Melios can help you understand the findings and identify practical next steps.
Support is available following ADHD and autism assessments completed through Melios or Healios. It is tailored to your family’s individual circumstances and may focus on psychoeducation, building understanding, and practical support for home, education and everyday life.
Understanding your child’s assessment outcome
As part of the assessment process, you’ll already have the opportunity to review the outcome and recommendations with a clinician. However, many parents and carers find they would benefit from additional time and support to explore the findings in more depth and consider what may be helpful moving forward.
You may be wondering:
- What does this outcome mean for my child?
- How can I best support them?
- Should I share the findings with school or college?
- What support might help my child?
- What adjustments should we consider?
- What are our next steps as a family?
These are all completely normal questions to have, and our clinicians are here to help you work through them.
Understanding your child’s experiences and moving forward
Most families seek an assessment because they have questions about their child’s experiences, development or day-to-day life.
You may have noticed differences with attention, organisation, emotional regulation, communication, friendships, sensory needs or routines. Or you may simply want a better understanding of your child’s strengths, needs and experiences.
An assessment can provide valuable insight, but the outcome is only one part of the picture. Whatever the findings, support can help you better understand your child’s experiences, build on their strengths and identify practical ways to support them at home, in education and in everyday life, so you can take the next steps with confidence.
What can post-assessment support help with?
Our experienced clinicians have supported thousands of children, young people and families through ADHD, autism and mental health pathways. They understand that every child and family is different.
Support is tailored to your needs and may include:
- understanding the assessment outcome and what it means for your child
- psychoeducation and family understanding
- exploring your child’s strengths, differences and support needs
- practical strategies for home, school and everyday life
- emotional regulation and wellbeing
- communication, relationships and routines
- education support and reasonable adjustments
- identifying any additional support that may be helpful
Whatever the outcome, the focus is on helping your family better understand your child’s needs and feel confident about the next steps.
Exploring your child’s assessment findings in more depth
As part of the assessment process, you’ll have the opportunity to discuss your child’s outcome and ask questions about the findings. Many parents and carers find that, after having time to reflect, new questions emerge or they would like to explore certain aspects in more depth.
Post-assessment support provides additional space to build on those conversations, helping you develop a deeper understanding of your child’s experiences, strengths and support needs, and identifying meaningful next steps for them and your family.
Practical support for home, education and everyday life
For many parents and carers, the biggest question is not the assessment outcome itself but what to do next.
Support can help you explore practical strategies for:
- supporting your child’s emotional wellbeing
- routines and transitions
- communication and relationships
- understanding behaviour and unmet needs
- working collaboratively with school or college
- understanding reasonable adjustments and support plans
- building confidence in supporting your child
The aim is to help you identify approaches that feel realistic, supportive and sustainable for your family.
A personalised plan based on your family’s needs
Every family’s needs are different after an assessment.
For some, one session is enough to understand the report, ask questions and identify practical next steps. Others benefit from additional support over time.
Where appropriate, we can also help you explore other services that may be beneficial, including ADHD medication support, therapy or mental health support.
Together, we’ll create a personalised plan based on your child’s needs, your family’s goals and your circumstances.
ADHD medication support
For children and young people who receive an ADHD diagnosis through Melios or Melios, ADHD medication support may be available where clinically appropriate.
If you’re unsure whether medication is right for your child, this can be discussed during a free consultation with our supportive team.
A private service built on proven clinical foundations
Melios is the dedicated private service within the wider Healios group.
Healios and Melios share the same clinical foundations, including experienced multidisciplinary teams, clinical governance, safeguarding and secure online delivery.
For families looking for greater flexibility or more direct access to assessment and support, Melios provides a private route backed by over a decade of experience.
