Private ADHD assessments for adults
For many adults, seeking an ADHD assessment comes after years of wondering why certain things feel harder than they seem to for others, why strategies that work for everyone else don’t quite work for you, or why you have to try so much harder just to keep up.
Our private ADHD assessments for adults are delivered online by experienced clinicians who take the time to build a full picture of your experiences, strengths and support needs. Whatever the outcome, we can help with practical recommendations that make a real difference to work, study and everyday life.
When ADHD starts to make sense
Many adults consider an ADHD assessment after recognising patterns in their attention, organisation, emotional regulation or everyday life.
You may find that work, relationships, routines or daily responsibilities take more out of you than others realise, despite the effort you put in.
A private ADHD assessment for adults can help build a clearer understanding of your experiences, strengths and support needs.
ADHD can be masked or misunderstood
ADHD is not always easy to recognise. Some adults appear organised, capable or successful while finding certain aspects of everyday life more demanding than others realise.
Others develop ways of adapting that make ADHD less obvious to those around them, or spend years wondering why some things feel the way they do.
A good ADHD assessment looks beyond first impressions and considers how ADHD affects your everyday life, including work, relationships and responsibilities.
What to expect from an adult ADHD assessment
Your private ADHD assessment will be explained clearly before you begin. Depending on the pathway, it may include:
- online appointments with a specialist clinician
- questionnaires and clinical information gathering
- a discussion of your experiences across education, work and everyday life
- consideration of attention, organisation, impulsivity and emotional regulation
- a discussion of your strengths, differences and support needs
- input from someone who knows you well, where helpful and with your consent
Your clinician will take time to understand your experiences, not just what you’re finding difficult right now.
How an adult ADHD assessment can help
A private ADHD assessment can help you:
- understand whether ADHD may be part of your experience
- make sense of patterns with attention, organisation and emotional regulation
- recognise your strengths as well as the areas that feel more demanding
- understand the impact of masking, overcompensation or burnout
- identify practical recommendations and support options
- consider what may help moving forward
The aim is not to reduce you to a diagnosis. It is to provide clearer understanding, clinical insight and practical next steps.
What happens after your assessment
Following the assessment, you will receive a clinical report explaining the outcome and what it means for you.
Your report may include:
- a clear summary of the assessment outcome
- your strengths, differences and support needs
- practical recommendations for work, study and everyday life
- information about further support, where appropriate
If ADHD or autism is not identified, the report will still provide clinical insight and recommendations to help you better understand your experiences and consider next steps.
Your clinician will also discuss the outcome with you directly, giving you the opportunity to ask questions and talk through the recommendations.
Online appointments that fit around your life
Melios assessments are delivered online through a secure platform. Many adults find it easier to attend appointments from their own space, at a time that works for them.
We can discuss practical adjustments in advance – including breaks, pacing and communication preferences – to help you feel as comfortable as possible throughout the assessment.
Could autism also be part of the picture?
ADHD and autism often overlap. Some adults exploring ADHD also recognise differences with sensory processing, communication, routines, social energy, burnout or overwhelm.
If ADHD does not fully explain what you are noticing, we can talk this through and help you explore what might make most sense. You do not need to work everything out alone before speaking to us.
ADHD medication support
For adults who have received an ADHD assessment through Healios or Melios, medication support may be available where clinically appropriate.
Medication is not the right option for everyone and is not offered as a standalone service for people assessed elsewhere.
If medication may be suitable for you, we can explain the prescribing pathway, answer your questions and help you understand what to expect.
A private service built on proven clinical foundations
Melios is the dedicated private service within the wider Healios group.
Healios and Melios share the same clinical foundations: experienced multidisciplinary teams, clinical governance, safeguarding and secure online delivery.
For adults looking for greater flexibility or more direct access to ADHD assessment and support, Melios provides a private route backed by over a decade of experience.
There is support beyond the assessment
An ADHD assessment can bring clarity, but it can also raise new questions.
Where appropriate, Melios can support adults after an ADHD assessment, helping you understand your report, consider practical adjustments and explore further support.
Support may include ADHD medication support, psychoeducation and practical strategies tailored to your needs.
The aim is to help you move from assessment outcome to meaningful next steps, with guidance rather than guesswork.

Adult ADHD assessment FAQs
Do I need a referral for a private ADHD assessment?
No. You do not need a GP or NHS referral to book a private ADHD assessment with Melios.
What age range does Melios assess?
Melios provides private adult ADHD assessments for people aged 18 and over.
Can ADHD be missed in adults?
Yes. ADHD can be missed when someone has learned to mask, compensate or manage difficulties in ways that are not obvious to others. Some adults reach assessment later in life after years of feeling misunderstood, overwhelmed or inconsistent.
What if I am worried I will not be taken seriously?
It is common to feel unsure, especially if you have spent years explaining things away or being misunderstood. A good assessment should give you space to describe your experiences carefully and consider how they have affected your life over time.
Can I have someone with me during the assessment?
Where appropriate, adults may choose to involve a partner, family member, friend or trusted supporter for part of the private ADHD assessment for adults. This can be discussed as part of the process and would only happen with your consent.
What happens after an ADHD assessment?
Following the assessment, you will receive a clinical report explaining the outcome, including whether you meet the criteria for a formal diagnosis, and what it means for you. The assessment is based on recognised clinical guidance, including NICE guidelines.
Is ADHD medication available after assessment?
Medication support may be available for adults diagnosed with ADHD through Healios or Melios, where clinically appropriate. Melios does not currently offer ADHD medication as a standalone service for people diagnosed elsewhere.
What happens if I do not receive a diagnosis?
If you do not meet the diagnostic threshold, your clinician will explain the findings clearly. The assessment can still help you understand your experiences and consider practical next steps.
Are assessments completed online?
Yes. Melios assessments are delivered online through a secure digital platform. Practical adjustments can be discussed where appropriate.
